Player of the Year

In 2007, the U-Sector established a Player of the Year Award, given to the Toronto FC player who contributed the most to the team during that year. Group members vote on the Award following each season.
A hand-engraved glass beer mug was selected to be the physical award, presented to the winner accompanied by that season’s version of the official U-Sector scarf. Each mug is customized with the recipient’s name and the year in which it was won.
Beer mugs were chosen due to their uniqueness versus standard awards such as trophies and plaques, with the idea being that the recipient would be more likely to use a mug in his everyday life, thus making the U-Sector Award more practical – and thereby more ‘valuable’ – than a run-of-the-mill award.
On October 23, 2007, the group announced that it had selected defender and team captain Jim Brennan as the inaugural recipient. Brennan received his Award at a ceremony at Toronto’s Madison Avenue Pub later that year.

Shot Glass of Distinction
In 2010, a second player award was created.
Unofficially dubbed “The U-Sector Dan Gargan Award,” the shot glass is given to the group’s favourite players of each season, selected through far less formal and stringent criteria than the POTY.
Fittingly, midfielder/defender Dan Gargan was proclaimed the inaugural recipient of the Shot Glass of Distinction on November 5th, 2010.
The Shot Glass of Distinction is not limited to one player per season.
