I wasn’t appalled by what I saw.
It really speaks to the lowered expectations of a rather turbulent preseason that I was expecting to see perhaps the worst TFC performance in their three year history. Preki did what he promised he’d do, and that was to clean house and replace underachieving, highly-paid players with a team that fits his style. That led to a lot of anguish and expectations of abject failure amongst the Toronto faithful, which, if yesterday’s game was any indication, may have been a bit premature.

The 2010 Toronto FC season starts today.
After what can only be called the most dramatic offseason in the club’s short history, as of 4 o’clock this afternoon the games start meaning something, whether Preki’s crew is ready or not.
Forget the pre-season games, because as of right now, they mean nothing. Push aside that painful 4-0 drubbing by NYRB that we all watched on a crap web feed emanating from Disney World. Erase the memories of no current TFC player actually scoring a goal throughout the pre-season games.

And then there was one.
With the news today that Carl Robinson has been released by TFC, there remains only one original roster member on the squad, captain Jim Brennan. And while Brennan will seemingly retire a hometown Red (especially after having just signed a new one-year deal), “Robbo” will need to pursue other opportunities to close out his distinguished career.
