The stage is set, the seats are (somewhat) sold out. Finally, MLS gets its biggest star on its biggest stage.
After three trying years, the LA Galaxy are playing in MLS Cup. The opponent is the less than stellar draw known (comically, even after five seasons) as Real Salt Lake.
While I’m sure the high-powered suits behind the league were hoping for a dream match-up of the world’s most famous athlete versus the biggest Mexican star of his generation, in reality Beckham’s opponent does not matter.

Ives Galarcep is reporting that former US international and Chivas USA coach Preki will become TFC’s next head coach.

At TFC we’re discussing requiring Academy players to commit to Canada if called. We wont develop a player who turns his back on Canada.
That’s what Toronto FC Business Director Paul Beirne posted to his Twitter account earlier today. It’s an astonishingly profound statement to be coming from the club, even if it is merely a one-liner in the “discussion” stages.

The first round of the 2009 MLS Cup playoffs concluded Sunday with the LA Galaxy scraping past their cross-hallway rivals Chivas USA by the narrowest possible margin, setting the stage for next weekend’s Conference Finals.
The Galaxy won their series by a single goal, courtesy of a successful Landon Donovan penalty kick in the 73rd minute of the Galaxy home leg. The 1-0 scoreline in the second leg was a complete reversal compared to the relative goalfest (a sloppy 2-2 draw) that was the Goats’ home leg a week previous.

Amid all of the hullabaloo about the Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact possibly playing in a brand new American second division next year, their former (and possibly future) league has let loose that it may be adding two more Canadian franchises to its ever-fluctuating fold, possibly as early as 2010.
The USL has indicated that interested investors from Edmonton and Ottawa may land teams in its First Division within the next two years, effectively replacing (or joining) the disgruntled Whitecaps and Impact as the Canadian flagbearers of USL-1.
